Zero Carbon Supermarket
Energy analysis and design development for a new build "green" store.
As part of its commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the Co-op set out a number of goals for climate action and responsible consumption and production.
To understand the organisation's position in relation to UN Sustainable Goal
13, Climate action, the Co-op engaged Ecospheric to provide input as part of an exercise to answer the following questions;
+ What is the current carbon impact of a new store?
+ What energy does a new store consume?
+ What is the minimum carbon impact of a GREEN store?
+ What is the most energy efficient a GREEN store can be?
This process resulted in the creation of a blueprint for a new Model Green Store, which will provide design and energy guidance for all newly built Co-op supermarkets. Co-op have made a pledge to achieve zero carbon performance across the Co-op group. All aspects of sustainability were considered; from foundations to building fabric and a plethora of renewable and energy efficient technological solutions. These measures will transform the face of supermarket design, construction, and operation.
